TULIP POPLAR BARK COVERED LODGES AT WILDROOTS
For more information on the bark-lodge method, check out the essential book, "Primitive Technology: A Book of Earth Skills" by the Society for Primitive Technology, ed. David Wecott OR, the equally essential "Practicing Primitive" by bark lodge neo-pioneer Steven M. Watts

The second bark lodge at Wildroots was built in 2006, as a wigwam (dome-shaped).

The third bark lodge is also a wigwam.

Twine and strings were later replaced by rawhide lashing.

Lashing is cut from a piece of wet raw deerhide.

Saplings are fastened onto the exterior to hold the bark against the frame.

A site is cleared on a hillside for our 4th bark lodge.

The 4th bark lodge is more of a "longhouse" style, like our original structure (on the front page).

The bark is laid on the roof in a dome shape, with vertical walls of bark, and a domed entryway

The near completed bark longhouse.

A new shelter for two folks and two dogs.
